SEGD Design Awards Program Receives Icograda Endorsement
Washington, DC SEGD (the Society For Environmental Graphic Design) is pleased to
announce SEGD’s 2009 Design Awards Program has received official endorsement from
Icograda, the world body for professional communication design.
Endorsement by Icograda indicates that SEGD’s design competition call for entries, jury
organization and makeup, and practices align with Icograda’s published “Regulations and
Best Practices for Organising Design Award Competitions.” These practices are recommended for competitions organized by Icograda’s member associates in 67 countries and
regions worldwide.
SEGD’s annual Design Awards Program was established in 1987 to recognize excellence in
environmental graphic design and to inspire and advocate for the highest standards in
design of communications in the built environment. The SEGD Design Awards have historically represented a wide diversity of winning design projects from around the world.
“We’re proud to have received Icograda’s endorsement for our competition and gratified that our partnership with Icograda helps widen SEGD’s reach internationally,” says
Steven Stamper, SEGD president. “Most important, we plan to continue holding the bar
high and promoting the highest standards for the design of communications in the built
environment.”
SEGD, founded in 1973, is the global community of people working at the intersection
of communication design and the built environment. Through educational programs,
research, and publications, SEGD’s mission is to increase awareness of the environmental graphic design community, promote the importance of the discipline in establishing
place, and continue to refine standards of practice for the field.
Founded in 1963, Icograda (the International Council of Graphic Design Associations) is a
