viscom frankfurt 2008: with outdoor advertising as a major theme

In the past, viscom was a trade fair that focused mainly on advertising technology. The times have changed, the International Trade Fair for Visual Communication has significantly expanded its offer. The “new” viscom is both a diversified platform for handicrafts and craftsmen, as well as a platform for high-tech innovations, a fact that is also reflected in the wide spectrum of exhibitors. The exhibitors and themes range from signmaking, light advertising and textile finishing to advertising and print matters, outdoor advertising, presentation systems/POP and the necessary materials for these, all the way to ambient media and digital signage.

From the visitor perspective, viscom addresses three major target groups: the classic users and agencies, the trade sector and the “end consumers” that have their own production facilities for visual communication, for example, industrial enterprises, trading enterprises and airports. After all, the visitor structure has also changed during the past years; in the meantime 15% of the visitors to the trade fair come from advertising agencies. “That makes the advertisers the second largest group of visitors, behind the advertising technology experts and ahead of the printers”, announced viscom Director Petra Lassahn.

The exhibitors at viscom shall include companies such as 3M Deutschland GmbH, Alcan Singen GmbH / Alcan Composites, Sihl Direct GmbH, Mullti-Plot Europe GmbH or Océ, and will be presenting many products and solutions in the field of outdoor advertising. Accordingly, the assessment of this area by the trade visitors was very positive at viscom 2007: 97 per cent assessed the outdoor advertising at the trade fair as excellent or very good according to an independent survey of viscom visitors.

As a manufacturer of coated and refined papers and sheets, Sihl will be presenting new LFP media for the production of large format photographs, billboards, POP-up displays or design drawings at viscom frankfurt 2008. The arrival of the LED in light advertising also offers many new opportunities for creativity and great cost-saving potential. 3M will be presenting its LED

Light System 800 at viscom. This is a solution that was especially designed for the outdoor advertising segment with features such as, homogenous illumination, a long service life, good weather resistance, low maintenance requirements, a high level of energy efficiency and a low installation depth. With their solution, 3M now offer a complete system that provides industries, marketers and agencies that implement advertising with added efficiency, quality and security. ALCAN COMPOSITES will be presenting FOREXprint and FOREXsmart in 5mm thickness, as well as a new wood surface (DIBONDdecor) at viscom; all of these solutions were designed for utilisation in the outdoor advertising segment. FOREXsmart was especially designed for outdoor use and combines the features of good weather resistance and easy printability. DIBONDdecor is an aluminium composite sheet with a polyethylene core that is available in a variety of wood surface designs. In comparison to real wood, it is impervious to moisture and temperature fluctuations, and is therefore excellently suited for outdoor use. The outdoor advertising theme shall again constitute a component of the programme at viscom frankfurt 2008: there will be various topic blocks with lectures during the three days of the trade fair in the two forums on media production, digital signage, light advertising and signmaking.

The organizers, Reed Exhibitions Deutschland GmbH, are expecting around 200 international exhibitors and 7,500 visitors from 30 countries at viscom frankfurt 2008.
