Hazardous Materials Seminar Certifies Shippers before SGIA ‘06

Course is customized for issues concerning screen print and digital industries

Fairfax, Virginia — Specialty imaging businesses can comply with US government training requirements for shippers of hazardous materials before the action starts at SGIA ’06 (Las Vegas, September 2629).

“Hazardous Materials Transportation Training” (September 2425) is one of the most affordable training courses out there.

It’s also the only course customized for the specialty graphics printing industry. That means attendees won’t waste time learning about compliance issues that don’t affect their operations. Instead, the focus is on ground and air shipping regulations for hazardous materials imagers use.

“This training seminar is vital for any printer, manufacturer or distributor that ships hazardous materials. It’s valuable to them from the government, employee safety and environmental standpoints,” said Marci Kinter, SGIA Vice President for Government & Business Information.

Any new employee who is involved in the shipping of hazardous materials must be certified within 90 days of employment, according to rules set by the Department of Transportation and International Air Transport Association. Additionally, certified employees must go for updated training every three years. Companies that fail to comply with government regulations face stiff fines, up to $25,700 per day; and civil penalties can include as much as five years of jail time.

“Attendees will walk away from this course feeling confident in how to get through the reference books SGIA will provide them and make shipments legally and safely,” said instructor Erik Reed, Manager for Nazdar’s regulatory compliance department.

While the seminar is just before SGIA ’06 in Las Vegas, seminar attendees are not required to register for the Expo. For more information and to register, visit SGIA.org.
