2006 SGIA Membrane Switch Symposium Delivers Success
Attendees cite exhibit and networking as event highlights
Fairfax, Virginia — Building on success from previous years, SGIA’s 2006 Membrane Switch Symposium (Indianapolis, June 13-14) was packed with specialized networking opportunities, a top-of-the-line exhibit show that had extended hours and education sessions.
At the symposium — the only customized event for the membrane switch industry — hundreds of membrane switch producers, manufacturers and distributors gathered together to share ideas and examine the market’s latest technologies.
“The biggest takeaways for me were networking and seeing the new technology in a concentrated environment,” said Karen Babler, Materials Manager for MetroMark Inc.
The event’s specialized focus on the niche industry helped Babler talk with her company’s main suppliers at the trade show, buffet dinner and other mingling opportunities. “It was incredibly efficient from a time perspective,” she said.
Other attendees said they benefited from the symposium’s educational sessions, which featured issues such as ink metallization and uses for flexible EL lamps.
“The session speakers were some of the best we’ve ever had,” said Mike McDaniel, Technical Manager at GM Nameplate Inc. and former SGIA Chairman. “One thing I liked is that SGIA had hot topics at the end of the session series. It really kept people interested throughout the whole event,” said McDaniel, who has attended almost all of SGIA’s Membrane Switch Symposiums.
Additionally, judges awarded ECI Screenprint Inc. (Thomaston, Connecticut) the gold and silver prizes for the membrane switch categories of the 2006 Golden Image Awards competition. Tekra Corp. (New Berlin, Wisconsin) was selected for the Membrane Switch Innovation of the Year Award for its Terrapin® G Hardcoat, a coating engineered for the demands of membrane touch switch applications.
“The symposium was truly a meeting of ideas and technologies,” said Sylvia Hall, Vice President, Conventions & Conferences. “Leading suppliers told us their best customers were here.”
